The Power of the Heart {Book Review}

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post for SheSpeaks/The Power of The Heart, however these opinions are 100% my own.

You know that moment when you pick up a book and you just can't put it down, well, The Power of the Heart is one of them!

Baptist De Pape had just finished law school and received a job offer to one of the most prestigious law firms in the world, but for some reason, something felt terribly wrong. One night he began to question his life's motives and felt that he had lost his way.

That night, he couldn't sleep due to this very important question, so he decided to watch YouTube videos on his computer. He came across Oprah Winfrey's interview with Eckhart Tolle called A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose, and was drawn to Oprah Winfrey's comment when she said, "I don't think anything is more important than awakening to what your life's purpose is."

Tolle also emphasized the importance of allowing moments of silence into your life, and taking a break from all the "mental noise." Baptist De Pape felt inspired to do so and took a walk in the woods. This experience of being in the woods all alone and in complete silence led him to his purpose.
His purpose was crystal clear to him. He had to "seek out the leading spiritual thinkers and writers and teachers of today and ask them for their insights about the heart. And [he] had to record their wisdom for all time. [He] had to make a film about the heart."

For the next two years Baptist De Pape traveled the world and was given the opportunity to meet and talk with eighteen of the most influential spiritual leaders, scientists and thinkers: Isabel Allende, Maya Angelou, Michael Beckwith, Deepak Chopra, Paulo Coelho, Joe Dispenza, Linda Francis, Jane Goodall, John Gray, Rollin McCraty, Howard Martin, Ruediger Schache, Marci Shimoff, Dean Shrock, Eckhart Tolle, Neale Donald Walsch, Marianne Williamson, and Gray Zukav.

The Power of the Heart is one of those books that you can't put down and you end up highlighting and underlining everything. After each page it killed me to not want to share my thoughts with my husband. Every quote, sentence and word struck me so deep that it was extremely hard to not bother him while he was hard at work with his own studies.

Because I had so much to say and couldn't verbalize it out loud, I felt very compelled to write down my thoughts on paper and have been loving every minute of it.

Since reading The Power of the Heart, I have completed many of the contemplation exercises, including the walking in silence exercise. For this exercise, it talks about the power of walking and running and that with exercise your brain cannot "dwell on worries and problems when your body is physically active." I know that when I exercise I always feel so much better, but I never realized that my brain actually took a break from all the worries in my life. This is something I have really needed and I feel that everyone needs this on a daily basis.

There are so many amazing quotes and messages about the heart, that I have been trying to find places for all of them on my desk, in my journal and wherever I can see them during the day. They are so uplifting, it is hard not to feel touched by every word in this book.

The Power of the Heart was just released and can be ordered online. There is also a movie and I am so excited to watch it! Also, follow Power of the Heart on Twitter and Facebook.
