How to Throw a Perfect Halloween Party

Anyone that knows me is fully aware of how much a) that I LOVE Halloween and b)that I absolutely LOVE throwing parties!  Every year I throw a variety of fun parties and it's no surprise that our annual Halloween parties just happen to be my favorite!  And with Halloween soon to be on it's way, NOW is the perfect time to start planning your parties.  Here are a few tips on how I make my Halloween parties so successful...
First things first, what kind of party are you going to be having?  Families?  Adults only?  What about a theme?  I kind of get a little crazy and often times have both a family Halloween party AND a separate adults only Halloween party.  We've done themed murder mystery parties and more, all of which have been huge successes!  You could do dress up themes such as favorite Disney characters, famous Hollywood couples, movie blockbusters, an 80s theme, and more.  I've noticed that with themes, your guests are able to really get in on the fun.
It's never to early to start prepping for your party!  From browsing the Internet and Pinterest for ideas to purchasing your costumes from Pure Costumes, party supplies, making decorations, and more--being prepared will help you pull off the ultimate Halloween bash!  I love finding ideas, creating things, and being able to have lots of time to find the best deals on things I purchase for the party.  A little prep works goes a long way and takes a lot of the stress out of party planning when you get it done early.
After the invitations are sent, a big part of making sure your party is a hit is the surroundings.  Make sure to set the perfect scene to your party with spooky decor, decorations relating to your theme, and anything else to entice the mood of your party.  I love finding cheap ways to decorate and purchasing awesome items to help make my party stand out.  Comparing parties that have decorations to parties that don't have anything is like comparing apples to oranges--decorations make such a big difference!  I've gone as far as turning our living room in to an indoor big top circus tent.  One thing is for sure--the more I set the scene, the more we are able to get into the spirit of the party!
What party is complete without food?!  There's just nothing like yummy food to bring your party over the top.  Spooky Halloween recipes, themed recipes, and more and so much fun to do!  I love having everyone bring a themed dish to share that way I am not doing all of the work, the guests get to get in on the action, and we all get to partake in some yummy wonderful creations.  Recipes are passed around and everyone is filled with lots of laughter and delicious food.
One of my favorite super easy Halloween Recipes is Witch's Hat Calzones (from Better Homes and Gardens):
One 3 1/2 ounce package sliced pepperoni
Half of an 8 ounce package cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup finely shredded or grated Parmesan cheese
Two 8 ounce package (16) refrigerated crescent roll dough
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon water
Finely shredded or grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Dried Italian seasoning (optional)
Crushed red pepper (optional)
Pizza sauce, warmed (optional)
Reserve six to eight slices of pepperoni; set aside. Chop remaining pepperoni slices. In a small bowl, stir together chopped pepperoni, cream cheese and the 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese until well combined. Set aside. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Lightly grease an extra large baking sheet; set aside. On a lightly floured surface, unroll each package of crescent-roll dough. Separate dough into individual triangles. Place half the dough triangles on the prepared baking sheet. Place about 1 tablespoon of the pepperoni-cheese mixture in the center of each triangle. In a small bowl, stir together egg and water. Brush edges of triangles with some of the egg mixture. Top with remaining triangles. Press triangle edges together to seal. Brush dough with egg mixture. Fold short edges of the dough triangles up, forming a hat brim. Prick the dough a few times with the tines of a fork. If desired, sprinkle with additional Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, and/or crushed red pepper. Cut reserved pieces of pepperoni into small stars, crescent moons, and/or small diamonds. Press onto dough for decoration. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden. Serve warm with pizza sauce, if desired. Makes 8 calzones.
Lastly, you want to be able to remember this party forever so don't forget to take lots of pictures, post things to Facebook, Instagram, whatever, tag your friends and guest and let the memories live on!
