Three Tips For The Fashionista Trying To Live Through Winter (Guest Post)

If you live anywhere in the United States, you don’t need to be told that it has been an unusually cold and wet winter. The bone chilling arctic temperatures would be slightly more bearable if it wasn’t teamed up with freezing rain and snow, but it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting any sort of relief soon.

When you’re spending your time eagerly watching the weather and scraping inches of ice off your car, you probably aren’t too concerned about how good you look. Winter is the season of layers and bulky clothing, but you can look cute and be warm at the same time. You may not be able to walk out the door by effortlessly throwing on a summer dress and some flats, but you still have a lot of cute and warm clothing options you can rock until the spring. When you’re waiting out the next big snowfall, go through your closet and apply these tips to your winter wardrobe.

Get a coat you love

When it comes to staying warm during winter you want a coat that will keep you warm above all else. Large bubble coats may be warm and toasty, but when you’re going somewhere nice that warm coat will become very clumsy and awkward to handle. Treat yourself this winter and buy yourself at least one nice coat you could easily see yourself wearing at an event. You won’t be caught off guard if you’re somewhere chilly and you need to look fabulous, and you’ll be more than happy to wait out the last few weeks of winter in stylish warmth. Pair your coat with some gloves, a scarf, and a hat for extra style!

Protect your footwear

If you’re not used to cold and wet winters, your footwear has probably taken a beating this winter. Your favorite boots have been stained with water and salt, and you’re wondering if they can withstand another blizzard. You may not be able to successfully make them look like new again, but you can do something to protect them from the harsh elements. Learn how to waterproof suede so you can save your favorite boots, and look for water sealing sprays for your favorite shoes made with other materials. Taking a few minutes to read an article or watch a YouTube video could save your favorite pair of shoes from going in the trash when you’re doing your spring cleaning.

Layer the right way

You don’t have to look like you’re going out to play in the snow whenever you want to layer up against the cold. Don’t pile on every bit of clothing you have to stay warm, there are a few essentials that can help keep you warm and keep you looking cute. Get a few pairs of not too thick leggings to wear underneath your skinny jeans to get a boost of warmth without the bulk. Find some knit leggings and cardigans to pair with your summer dress, and find stores that sell good basics so that you’ll always have something warm and discrete to wear underneath your clothing.
