I was a huge Dixie Chicks fan when I was younger. I knew all the lyrics to their albums and going to their "Fly" album concert was one of the best memories I have! I really connected to their songs and was completely envious of their amazing voices and musical talent. Now after a few years away from the limelight, real-life sisters Emily Robison and Martie Maguire (who made up two-thirds of the Dixie Chicks) have continued to find beautiful harmony by collaborating as Court Yard Hounds.
After releasing their 2010 self-titled debut, Court Yard Hounds, to much critical acclaim, the two sisters were ready to get back into the studio. Amelita, out now, marks the Court Yard Hounds' second album. Containing 11 new tracks, Robison and Maguire took a different approach with Amelita than their debut album. This album contains a new perspective, which is due in part to time passed since Robison’s divorce. “I’ve been freed of all of those time-heals-everything kind of things,” says Robison. “Now, I’ve opened up to other ideas and ways of looking at life and the world. I think it’s not only a more hopeful album, but it’s more… well fun." "I love this band...the way we explore new aspects of ourselves and what we can expect from each other, both musically and as people," says Martie.
"We are close. Plus, being on the road and being in the studio is like my spa from the everyday challenges of just being a mom.” The Court Yard Hounds’ new album is a clear statement of who the girls are as artists, defining their sound as a band, with soaring songs that are personal, yet familiar and widely relatable. Along with the release of Amelita, Court Yard Hounds are set to embark on a US tour, kicking off with Lollapalooza in August.
Hearing Court Yard Hounds for the first time was such a joy! I instantly remembered their familiar voices and was drawn in to their songs. Amelita is a beautiful eclectic album with lots of great songs. These girls have got more talent than you can possibly imagine! Not only do they have fantastic voices, but they can play a variety of musical instruments--adding depth and soul to their music. These girls sure have evolved throughout their country-pop career and Court Yard Hounds is one strong and sassy group! Some of my favorite tracks from the Amelita album were Aimless Upward, Divided, The Road You Take, Amelita, Sunshine, and The World Smiles--which is a great song to start your day off with! I'm so proud of these girls and can't wait to see and hear what is next from Court Yard Hounds!
