Gift Guide: National Geographic Book of Animal Poetry (Review & Giveaway)

If you are searching for some great books to go under the tree this year, I would highly recommend "the National Geographic Book of Animal Poetry edited by J. Patrick Lewis, the U.S. Children's Poet Laureate. This beautiful book contains 200 poems -- both classics and modern selections -- that celebrate the winged ones who fly through the air, the little ones who crawl through the dirt and all the noisy, quiet, big strange and other ones in between. Big, beautiful and gorgeous full-bleed photographs accompany the poems that inspire even as they inform children about the creatures in the world around them."
We love books, so it was fun receiving this in the mail! My girls were in awe at the beautiful pictures and had fun looking at all the amazing animals. I really like this book because it's easy to pick up and read as many poems as you want at a time. Sometimes we read a ton and other times we just spend time looking at the photos and talking about the animals and the bright and bold colors. The Book of Animal Poetry has definitely been a great addition to our book shelf!
"The perfect keepsake gift for little animal lovers or a favorite teacher, the National Geographic Book of Animal Poetry has the rare and distinguished honor of earning starred reviews from all of the the major book review publications. Kirkus Reviews calls the National Geographic Book of Animal Poetry “A well-stirred mix of old and recent limericks, haiku, short lyrics, shaped poems and free verse… A spectacular collection…” and School Library Journal goes on to say "Add a little natural wonder to your poetry shelves. Because if we’re talking about the best possible compliment to your eyes and ears alike, few have as many perks and grand moments as this."
