Why is it that my kids always seem to think bed time means get crazy and do anything but fall asleep-time? Sometimes when I put my kids down for bed they seem to be full of energy and don't want to sleep. I try to get them to read or look at books quietly in their beds but most of the time I just hear them playing. This week I got a new CD in the mail called I Am Sleepy! from independent children's musician Sukey Molloy. I decided to try having my kids lay in bed and listen to the album to see if it could help calm them down and help them sleep. Well, guess what..it worked!
Sukey Molloy's I Am Sleepy! album features songs, stories, lullabies, and poetry which were created to help children drift off to sleep. The soothing sounds and gentle voice of Sukey reallys helps children settle into slumber for the night.
Sukey Molloy explains, "I wanted to give parents a recording that they could use to help create a peaceful, soothing, beautiful atmosphere that would nourish a sense of comfort and joy for a wide age range -- toddler, preschooler, or a mother with a newborn infant."
I Am Sleepy! blends traditional (and not often heard) lullabies, original songs that Sukey composed especially for nighttime listening, and stories and poetry she created with the intention of bringing a sense of both security and mystery at bedtime. The album weaves its way through a calming, quiet, yet always engaging and sometimes playful nighttime "under the stars" tapestry imbued with the sounds of crickets, owls, and lambs. Sukey's gentle storytelling and vocals are complemented by the contributions of her classically trained musician friends on harp, recorder, violin, dulcimer, guitar, bass, and piano
