One great thing about being married to an American is that I get to celebrate two Thanksgivings! With the leaves changing colors it really is a beautiful time of year and there are so many wonderful things we can be grateful for!
Here are a few fun facts about Canadian Thanksgiving!
In Canada, we celebrate Thanksgiving on the second Monday in October.
The origin and history of Thanksgiving Day in Canada is different from the American Thanksgiving.
Whereas the American tradition talks about remembering Pilgrims and settling in the New World, Canadians give thanks for a successful harvest!
Because Canada is further north, the harvest season arrives earlier than the American harvest season. And since Canadian Thanksgiving is all about giving thanks for the successful harvest, it only makes sense to have it in October.
I hope you enjoyed these fun facts! So fellow Canadians, go and enjoy the parades, family gatherings, pumpkin pie and a whole lot of turkey!
