The Pioneer Cookbook Review & GIVEAWAY (closed)

Get back to the roots of cooking with The Pioneer Cookbook by Miriam Barton. This is truly not your typical cookbook! With recipes from all different backgrounds, vast tidbits of historical information, and tons of fun facts about pioneer times, The Pioneer Cookbook “returns us to a simple time when food filled our souls and everything was made from scratch.”
The book contains over 200 pioneer recipes adapted for today's kitchen and which are made with everyday ingredients found around the house and simple easy-to-follow instructions.
I began trying a few of the recipes and so far, no complaints in our home! Everything tastes so scrumptious and is has the amazing “home-cookin” taste! Some of my favorite recipes that I have made or are on my list of meals to make soon include: Chicken Pot Pie, Chicken Noodle Soup (looks just like my mom’s recipe), some of the gravys, peach cobbler, biscuits or scones topped with any of the butter recipes- honey, pumpkin, or apple, oh and my husband was thrilled to see the eggs benedict and hollandaise sauce recipes which are a favorite meal of his!!
Inspired and intrigued by various recipes, I found myself thinking of cooking skills of my own personal ancestors and even my grandmother. My grandma Laurel was an amazing cook. There was never a time when she didn’t have a fresh batch of candies, cookies, or cakes sitting on her countertop ready to be eaten. I have fond memories of watching her cook and seeing her bake. Just like The Pioneer Cookbook, she used lots of fresh ingredients and lots of love to make her dishes.
While reading through The Pioneer Cookbook, I came to realize just how talented and special the pioneers were. I was also surprised to see such a diverse selection of recipes in this book from jambalaya, enchiladas, lobster, fried chicken, fish, and more, which truly reflect the various cultures and influences the pioneers had. So, no matter what background you might come from, I’m sure there will probably be something in here that will inspire memories from your family.
Overall, whether you are in the mood for some fried chicken, beef stew, potato salad, wheat bread, blackberry jam, or even apple pie—you might just want to check out this cookbook!
