Tummy Tub Review

Every since I saw the Tummy Tub on The Today Show back in May last year, I was very intrigued about it. I was amazed to see all these cute little babies in these clear bucket-type tubs. Being that I have recently had a baby, I wanted to try it out and see if it was really worth all the hype. At first all I knew about the Tummy Tub was that it used less water, mimicked the womb, and was easily transportable. However as I researched and used the product, I found out a lot more about its benefits.

(From the Tummy Tub USA website) “For nine months your baby feels safe, comfortable and secure in the womb. After birth everything changes for your baby, who suddenly experiences bright lights, new sights and sounds, hunger, gravity and an ever-changing world. The TummyTub® has been developed in cooperation with physicians, midwives and nursery nurses, to ease the transition from the secure environment of the womb to the new world. The unique womb shape helps your baby to relax, and become calm in the familiar fetal position. The benefits of the Tummy Tub are acknowledged in maternity hospitals and homes throughout Europe.”

When I first got the Tummy Tub and read the instructions, I was a little hesitant if I was going to be able to bathe my baby correctly the first time. I found it very important to read the instructions thoroughly because once the baby is in the Tummy Tub, you have to hold and support the baby’s head. It was imperative that I had everything I was going to need within arms length to reach it with my free hand.
Here is a video of me using the Tummy Tub:

My son happens to have acid reflux and lots of gas. Sometimes he can get very fussy and uncomfortable. The Tummy Tub seemed to instantly sooth and relax my baby when I placed him in it. He really enjoyed all the water and while sometimes liking the fetal position, he also really liked trying to stand in the tub, which I guess is quite common. Washing the baby can seem a little hard at first but I found the suggestion of placing a little soap directly into the water and going from top down useful. I also really liked how warm the water stayed. All in all, I found that each time I used the Tummy Tub, it got easier and I felt more comfortable bathing my baby. One thing that I think really sets the Tummy Tub apart from other infant tubs is that it is very eco-friendly.

Some of the other perks of the Tummy Tub are: (from the website)
-Baby feels warm, safe, and relaxed within soft boundaries
-Eases indigestion, gas, and colic while calming baby
-Stimulates cognitive and physical development
-Ultra lightweight, easy on your back
-Meets the most stringent safety regulations worldwide
-Phthalate, BPA, lead free
-Uses less water, energy, and space than traditional baby tubs
-The optional stand raises baby to a comfortable sitting position and doubles as a stool, with clever design for storage inside
-Fully recyclable

I enjoy my Tummy Tub and would recommend it to parents especially those with colicky babies.
If you are interested in buying one, I highly suggest going to the Tummy Tub USA website and researching it, as well as watching some of the many videos available to view. You will be amazed at some of the wonderful things this product has to offer!
